The Brompton Wins SA's 2007 Hotel of the Year Award!
08 August 2007
The Brompton was tonight named South Australia’s Hotel of the Year for 2007 at a major ceremony staged, at the Convention Centre, by the Australian Hotels Association (AHA).
The Brompton received the top honour after collecting two other awards earlier in the gala evening. Best metropolitan bistro brasserie which it shared with the Stirling Hotel. And best redeveloped metropolitan licensed premises that it shared with The Highway Plympton.
As The Advertiser noted, “a hidden treasure tucked away near the Port Adelaide railway line, the heritage-listed hotel has been brought back to life with a ‘vintage meets sassy’ modern theme”.
AHA general manager Ian Horne said the hotel had been uniquely renovated to retain its traditional stone exterior appearance, but with a chic, modern interior. “The Brompton typifies all that is good about SA’s hotel scene”, he said.

The Brompton is owned by John O’Neill and Dean and Ian Krivicic who stress they have “strived to achieve the right balance between the old and the new since buying the property in 2005”.Says Mr Krivicic, “we first of all put a huge amount of effort and care into meticulously restoring the original 1880s building which was then opened late last year. We then moved onto the development of the visually elegant new part of the hotel that was opened earlier this year.
“The latter was something we wanted to be a true modern day landmark. But we also insisted that it also had to totally harmonise with and complement the old building. So that rather than dominating our charming heritage, its role is to enhance the original structure.”
It is in this new area that The Brompton has located its Brasserie and lazily sprawling, fully serviced Courtyard facilities .
